Just a few of the many things to do are summarised here:
Culture and History
A wonderful programme of theatre, film and music can be found at Theatr Clwyd just 11 miles away and Chester, Rhyl, Llandudno and Liverpool have a variety of museums and art galleries as well as great music, theatre, dance and opera. For extraordinary days out why not visit one of the many historic properties near by: National Trust Erddig, near Wrexham, Chirk Castle or follow the coast to Conwy Castle one of the most stunning 1284 castles surrounded by the delightful town of Conwy. Nearby Bodnant Garden is a must see.
Activities and Adventure
There are lots of lovely walks directly from The Longbarn or nearby in the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty where you can walk to the top of Moel Famau along the Offa’s Dyke path. There are also many scenic trails in The Hiraethog Mountains including around Llyn Brenig Reservoir. Swim in the sea at any one of the great beaches around the coast or go by steam from Corwen on The Llangollen Railway or to the top of the highest peak in Wales on the Snowdon Railway.
North Wales has always attracted walkers who delight in exploring its beautiful landscapes, and now it’s also known as the adventure capital of Europe! Experience the thrills at Bala Watersports, go Stand up Paddle Boarding in Llangollen, and learn to surf at Surf Snowdonia or Kitesurf in Rhyl. And if you’re looking for more adventure try Mountain biking in the forest at Coed Llandegla or perhaps the world’s fastest zip wire at Zip World in Eryri (Snowdonia) would be your thing! You might also enjoy the world’s first subterranean playground at Bounce Below.
Eating Out
Ruthin has a number of excellent eateries. Try Small Plates, Manorhaus or wander up to The Castle Hotel…
Out in the villages there are some great pubs that also serve delicious food – look out for The White Horse at Hendrerwydd and The Griffin at Llanbedr. In Bodfari there is The Dinorben Arms and, for a very special meal, try Michelin starred Tyddyn Llan Restaurant in Llandrillo.
For breakfast, lunch or a snack try Café R at Ruthin Craft Centre or The Sugar Plum Tea Room in the village of Rhewl. Further afield and well worth a visit is Rhug Estate Farm Shop and Café famous for its bison burgers and lovely walks nearby.
